Tongue piercings are becoming more and more fashionable among
our youths today. They are a symbol of individuality and can potentially give a person an extra attractive
edge. However, there are many dangers associated with tongue piercings. What happens if you get
a tongue piercing
infection?
First and foremost, you should always seek professional help if
your tongue gets infected. You don’t want to risk it to become in to something much worse. Here are a few
points that you can consider:
1. You won’t like this but you must remove the tongue bar or other
piercing out of your mouth. There is a possibility that the hole may close up but this is for the benefit of
your health. Unfortunately the piercing won’t allow your body to properly heal and could cause the infection
to spread or become worse.
2. Once you have taking out the tongue bar, you should begin to
apply an ice cube to the area ever half an hour or so. This will help with swelling and give you minor relief
if your tongue is in pain. I would play games or watch TV and pop a few ice cubes in my mouth at every
commercial.
3. As I mentioned before, get some professional advice. See your
doctor as soon as possible. He or she will be able to give you the right advice and possibly some medication
to help with curing the infection. A tongue piercing infection won’t just go away
on its own. Don’t delay, pick up the phone and make an appointment right away.
4. While you wait for your doctor’s appointment, you can mix sea
salt with warm water are rinse your mouth often. Some people use hydrogen peroxide mixed with water but I
don’t advise you put this in your mouth. It will kill you if you ingest enough of
it.
If you are unfortunate to get a tongue piercing infection the advice above will help set you on the right tracks. If your hole ends up closing
because of an infection then it is better that way than risking your whole tongues health. Keep your mouth
and piercing clean at all times and you shouldn’t have to worry about getting a tongue
infection.
