Tongue bars started out as an extreme piercing item but are now a highly fashionable accessory. You can find all sorts of tongue accessories online such as tongue bars, studs, balls and rings. If you aren’t familiar with tongue piercing, then I encourage you to read on about piercing and the jewelry that it involves.

Usually a tongue piercing will cost between $45 and $55. Sometimes this includes the jewelry and sometimes not. Because a tongue piercing is a puncture wound, the first one will probably cost about $20. Tongue bars can cost between $1 and $50 depending on what it is made of. However, it is my best advice to choose surgical steel and this has been known to have little reaction to the human body as it heals.

Plastic tongue bars are great because they are light and offer a wide range of colors. However they can be a problem if you are prone to biting your tongue piercing. The last thing you want is for the plastic tongue bar to break inside your mouth, or even worse in the middle of your tongue.

Sometimes a tongue bar can be a bit of a distraction. This is especially the case for interviews and other employment where this type of jewelry would need to be removed. Thankfully there are tongue retainers that cover your tongue for these reasons. You can find all sorts of crazy designed tongue retainers but if you aren’t allowed the tongue bar then it will be most likely that the retainer would cause an even bigger problem.

Designer tongue jewelry is available and is usually handmade. Some specialty shops even offer you the chance to design your own. However, be sure that you know who you’re dealing with and the materials being used. Remember that the tongue bar will be in your mouth 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Do you clean your tongue piercing? It is especially important to clean your tongue bar while your tongue is still healing. There are many professional brands of cleaners and you should stick to them aside from a sea salt water soak.

It doesn’t matter if you are a guy or girl, tongue bars are for everyone. We’ve mentioned a few things to look out for and we hope you use that information as a guide. Always be sure to use certified piercers and respect their advice.
